Delivering software as a service
Delivering software as a service
A new delivery method is shaking the software industry’s foundations. Traditional vendors should take heed.

In This Article
- Exhibit 1: The economics of companies that deliver software as a service differ from those of large software companies, though they are similar to those of smaller ones
- Exhibit 2: Applications are likely to migrate from traditional delivery to software as a service at different times for enterprise customers vs. small and midsize businesses
- Sidebar exhibit: Software as a service offers a reduction in total cost of ownership
The online delivery of software—sometimes labeled software as a service—has been a long-standing dream for some vendors and CIOs. The concept is simple and attractive: rather than buying a software license for an application such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) or customer relationship management (CRM) and installing this software on individual machines, a business signs up to use the application hosted by the company that develops and sells the software, giving the buyer more flexibility to switch vendors and perhaps fewer headaches in maintaining the software. For many years, traditional software vendors (those who sell licensed and packaged software, often along with a maintenance contract) have been able to overlook a rising crop of competitors that offer software as a service, as the latter have struggled to develop truly competitive services. It’s now time for traditional companies to pay attention, for they risk losing their privileged position to attackers that offer applications in this new way.
The complacence of traditional vendors is easily understood in light of the record: the first generation of online software delivery, in the late 1990s, failed to meet the reliability and quality standards demanded by business users. But the new delivery method appears to ...

Generating traffic to your AdSense blog
src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">
As blogging continues to grow in popularity as a way for internet users to share opinions, swap stories and express themselves, it just stands to reason that it would find its way into the commercial side of the internet as well.
In fact blogs have become an important part of the commercial internet, and they are widely used for all sorts of advertising and commercial purposes. Blog sites of all stripes are increasingly becoming very effective ways to make money through programs like Google AdSense.
src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">
This Google AdSense program provides an excellent resource for bloggers to earn an easy passive income through their postings and provides a good reward for all their efforts. It is important for those bloggers, however, to maximize their efforts by optimizing both their web site traffic and their AdSense strategy.
It is important to gather as many visitors as you can to your blog, of course, both for personal reasons and for commercial ones. The best way to accomplish that goal, of course, is to provide your visitors with high quality, informative content they can use, and to get your visitors actively involved in your blog experience.
The best known blogs are generating enormous amounts of hits every single day, and much of this exposure has come through word of mouth as one person found the site interesting and told someone else and so on.
Since the key to generating the web traffic that will in turn drive AdSense revenue is to provide lots of useful content, the key is to get lots of useful content up as quickly as possible. There are several ways to accomplish this goal of course. One way is to hire a professional writer to post entries to your blog on a regular basis.
There are literally thousands of web content writers who will be happy to produce high quality original content for those blogs for a modest fee. These writers can produce all the content for you and you can simply cut and paste the content into your own blog. Due to the high level of content needed, however, this technique can become somewhat expensive.
The more cost effective alternative is simply to write the content for your blog yourself. This can be a fun as well as cheap alternative to hiring a professional writer. After all, it can be lots of fun to express yourself and write about the things you feel passionately about.
Of course it is important to do your homework and to know which keywords related to your subjects are the most popular. Having the most popular keywords on your site will help you to attract the best and highest paying ads.
As the power of blogs continues to grow and the internet continues to change, it is important to keep abreast of these new technologies and ever changing world. Keeping on top of all this innovation can be difficult, but it is important to your long term success in the world of AdSense.
This free Course is spread apart over a long period of time. If you want to get whole course immediately you can get it for reasonable price here:

AdSense publishers (that’s us, folks!)
AdSense publishers (that’s us, folks!) can be a self-centered group…. let’s face it, we’re using AdSense because we want to make money. Maybe not a lot of money (as always, there’s usually a direct link between the amount of money you make doing something and the time and effort you put into the process) but money nonetheless. And that means focusing on the tiny part of the Internet that’s yours by publishing more content and getting more backlinks to that content.
Every once in a while, though, it’s good to step back and look at the wider picture. If you’ve done this for a while now, you’ve surely developed some expertise or understanding of how things work on the Web. Why not use this expertise to benefit someone else for a change, without them knowing about it?
There are all kinds of “random acts of SEO kindness” you can do that will benefit others. Here are a few suggestions:
- Bookmark someone else’s page. We all know that Social Bookmarking Is Today’s Big Thing and so we’re busy bookmarking our own sites… Well, go and bookmark your favorite charity’s site. Or your child’s school site. Or a site you just like. (Side benefit here: your bookmarking account won’t get flagged for just bookmarking your own sites…)
- Submit articles that link to other sites. Do you have access to an article submission service like Article Marketing Automation? Submit an article that benefits someone else.
- Link to other sites. It’s tempting to hoard PageRank by linking as little as you can to other sites… but PR ultimately depends on sites linking to other sites to work. Give a real link to a site you like from one of your own pages and spread the wealth.
That’s just scratching the surface, of course, I’m sure you can come up with your own ideas. How about setting up a Google custom search portal for your favorite local team or charity and making them a few bucks that way? Or teaching what you’ve learned about the Web to others?
Random acts of SEO kindness won’t make you any money, but they’ll make you feel better, and that’s a different kind of reward.
The Only AdWords Guide You’ll Need
Something a little different now… I’ve started writing a short little ebook called The Only AdWords Affiliate Marketing EBook You’ll Ever Need (PDF). Just four pages so far, but if people like it I’ll add in more information. It’s one of the free resources on my AdWords Tips and Resources page. I find that so many AdWords guides fluff themselves out with lengthy explanations about AdWords, affiliate marketing, ClickBank, etc. that I thought a bare bones “just give me the details” report might be of interest. Let me know what you think. You can distribute it for free to anyone you want as long as you don’t charge for it — see the copyright notice at the bottom of the first page for the details.
More details about AdWords can also be found in the AdSense FAQ (frequently asked questions), specifically in the answer to What is AdSense?.
Protect Yourself From Clicking Your Ads Accidentally
Well, fear no more. There are two ways you can protect yourself from clicking on your AdSense Ads accidentally.
1. Disable Your Browser Javascript
If you disable browser Javascript setting, the Google Adense ads will not be shown while you are working on your AdSense page. The following steps will show you how to disable Javascript in Internet Explorer and Firefox.
Internet Explorer 3.X
- From the menu bar, select the Tools, then click on the Options.
- Select the "Security" tab page
- Uncheck "Run ActiveX scripts" to disable Javascript
- Restart the browser
Explorer 4.x
- From the menu bar, select the Tools, then click on the Internet Options.
- Select the Security tab page
- Select Custom and click on the Settings... button
- Select Disable under Active scripting to disable Javascript
- Restart the browser
Explorer 6.x
- From the menu bar, select the Tools, then click on the Internet Options.
- Select the Security tab
page
- Select Custom Level... button
- Select Disable under Scripting > Active scripting to disable Javascript
- Restart the browser
FireFox
- From the menu bar, select the Tools, then click on the Options.
- Select the Content tab page
- Uncheck Enable Javascript to disable Javascript
- Restart the browser
You should be aware that by disabling Javascript in the browser, you may not view any PPC ads or use any Javascript related application in your browser
2. Edit the Hosts File In Your Computer
Open the host file in your PC with Word Pad/note pad and add the following entry in the host file of your PC:
- 127.0.0.2 pagead2.googlesyndication.com
Save the hosts file and restart your browser. You will not see the AdSense ad while you are working on your website.
You can find the hosts file from the following directory of your PC:
- Windows 95/98/Me, c:windows
- Windows NT/2000/XP Pro, c:winntsystem32driversetc
- Windows XP Home, c:windowssystem32driversetc
If this trick is applied, you would not be able to view any Google AdSense Ads from any AdSense site.
Google AdSense Tips
Google AdSense Tips
If you like these tips, be sure to check out my AdSense book, Make Easy Money with Google: Using the AdSense Advertising Program, from Peachpit Press. See memwg.com for details. The book was mentioned in an article about AdSense in USA Today. |
As explained in Why are ads displayed on this site?, most of the pages on this site display text ads from Google's AdWords program. To display these ads, a site must join Google's AdSense program. Joining is free, but not all sites are eligible to join. Once you're accepted, however, it's very simple to place the ads on your pages and to start generating revenue for your site. AdSense will serve ads that are generally very relevant to the content of a particular page. Here are some tips based on my experiences so far with the AdSense program.
Tip #1: Don't put ads on empty pages.
When I reworked my site, I built a skeleton set of pages that had no content, just titles and some meta tags. I displayed ads on those pages, however. Although all you see are public service ads at first, the very act of displaying ads on a page causes the AdSense web crawler to quickly fetch that page for analysis. A page with good content will thus begin showing relevant paying ads fairly quickly.
If you don't have any content, then, Google will have to guess as what your page is about. It may guess wrong, and so the ads that it displays may not be relevant. You'll have to wait until Google re-crawls the site for the ads to correct themselves. Here is what Google had to say when I asked them about how often the AdSense crawler updates a site:
Thank you for taking the time to update your site. New ads will start appearing on your site the next time our crawler re-indexes your site. Unfortunately at this time, we are unable to control how often our crawlers index the content on your site. Crawling is done automatically by our bots. When new pages are added to your website or introduced to the AdSense program, our crawlers will usually get to them within 30 minutes. If you make changes to a page, however, it may take up to 2 or 3 weeks before the changes are reflected in our index. Until we are able to crawl your web pages, you may notice public service ads, for which you will not receive any earnings. |
It's better to flesh out the page before you start displaying ads on it.
Tip #2: Don't be afraid to ask questions
If you're wondering about something, don't be afraid to ask Google. So far, they've always responded to my questions within a working day. There are two email addresses to use, depending on the type of question:
Please feel free to email us at adsense-tech@google.com if you have additional technical questions or concerns. For general program or account questions, please email adsense-support@google.com. |
Their responses are always very polite, and they appreciate getting problem reports and suggestions.
Tip #3: Avoid non-English characters on English pages
This one is a bug, to be honest. My surname is French, and I prefer to write it out correctly with the accent grave on the first "e". Every page on my site would then include at least two accented letters, because my name shows up twice in the footer. On some pages my name shows up two or three more times.
Normally, this wouldn't be an issue. But on some pages the presence of the accented characters is enough to cause AdSense to display non-relevant ads in French. This happens whether the browser indicates a preference for French or not. When I reported this to Google, this is the answer they gave me:
Hello Eric, Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. We are currently working as quickly as we can to address this problem. As soon as we have more information for you, we will email you again. We appreciate your patience. Sincerely, The Google Team |
Until this is resolved, I've decided to strip out all accents except on the pages that are actually in French.
Tip #4: Check your keyword density
Although Google doesn't release exact details as to how they determine the ads to serve on a given page, they do tell us that it's the text content of the page that matters, not the meta tags. Before serving ads on a page, then, you might want to check its keyword density. A good, free tool for doing this is found here:
http://www.ranks.nl/tools/spider.html
This lets you fine-tune the page before exposing it to the AdSense crawler.

No Software download AdSense PSA Ads
AdSense PSA Ads - They're Back!
Friday, November 16, 2007
Those pesky Public Service Announcements (PSA) from AdSense have taken over my dog blog, DoggieNews.
They only seem to show up on the homepage, and on the archive pages. On the permalink pages, AdSense displays paid ads.
Since the homepage generates a big percentage of page views, I'm losing a lot of money by having the PSAs show up. And it was only recently that they began displaying, probably only a week ago. For the longest time, PSAs never showed up there.
You won't actually see PSA ads on my dog blog right now because I've replaced them with a back-up set of ads, which is actually Yahoo Publisher ads. But my experience with Yahoo Publisher shows that it pays less than AdSense. So, I'd rather figure out why PSAs are suddenly showing when they didn't used to.
I think the reason why is because there's been recently a reduction in ads for the words, "dog" and "dogs". It used to be these keywords generated a bunch of ads on Google's SERPs. The PSAs are showing up simply because what few advertisers are remaining for these keywords have may have blocked their ads from AdSense.
I'm going to try to replacing the META keywords with more lucrative ads like "dog training", or "puppy training". I'll let you know if that fixes it.

Blogger Archive Pages
Thursday, November 08, 2007
If you're running AdSense on Blogger, there's a little trick you can do to minimize the number of PSA's on your archive pages.
On the Archive Settings, there is a field for the "Archive Filename", as follows...
Enter a filename representing your biggest money keyword. In my case, I used "adsense.htm".
Blogger uses this filename when creating archive pages, such as follows...
By having the word "adsense.html" as my archive filename, AdSense will use this to determine ad relevancy.
By default, Blogger will use the filename, "archive.html", and this will often cause AdSense to show PSA's.
Of course, this "trick" can apply to any blogging platform, not just Blogger.

10 Perkara NOT to do With Google Adsense nak Download Software free nanti..
Korang kene hati-hati sebelum bakal bapak mertua korang reject akaun korang tanpa korang sedari.
Ini aku no komen sebab aku sendiri buat.
So, apatah lagi kalau Google Adsense dan Advertiser pulak? Lagila diorang tak suka kan? Jadi, jika akaun korang ditutup selamanya dari program ini, aku bercadang korang cuba pulak program lain? Berani?
Perkara 5 - Keep AdSense ads off of your registration, confirmation, and all “thank you” pages
Aku rasa dalam term adsense yang terbaru. Benda ini sudah selesai. Korang boleh letak sekarang bukan? Jika aku salah, tolong inform aku diruang komen tau!
Perkara 6 - Jangan korang mengada-ngada buat klik di website korang sendiri sekalipun korang berminat gila nak tahu iklan tu cerita pasal apa.
Lagi bagus. Orang dah kata jangan! Degil! Gi balik, bancunh susu anak..
Perkara 7 - No misleading labeling
Google is very specific about what text can be placed around their ads. Their Terms of Service state: “Publishers may not label the ads with text other than ‘sponsored links’ or ‘advertisements.’ This includes any text directly above our ads that could be confused with, or attempt to be associated with Google ads.” This is to keep visitors from becoming confused and barking up Google’s tree when they clicked on an ad that led to a porn site instead of the recipe site they were expecting to visit.
Google benci tu tau!
Perkara 9 - Don’t advertise anything on Google’s prohibited items list.
t’s a lot shorter lists than PayPal’s or eBay’s, but it includes a lot of the same stuff like hacking/cracking content, porn, illegal drugs, gambling sites, beer or hard alcohol (I guess wine is OK), weapons, and the other usual stuff.
Perkara 10 - Jangan korang buat 9 Perkara diatas sebelum datangnya 1 Perkara.

HOW-TO Build Google Adsense Feeder Pages The Search Engines Devour
TRAFFIC, as we all know it is the life blood of your businesses VERY existence online, so wouldn't it be nice if you could tap into some of that traffic, thats targeted Search Engine traffic, absolutely FREE Of Charge?
Let go straight foward to Tips #1
Tips #1. Make your "Feeder Pages" theme based.
This is an important tip. You must make your "Feeder Pages" the same theme as the rest of your website. What I mean by that is, same template, same navigation, same links, copyright, etc.
By doing this it won't seem as obvious to your visitor that its a generated page of some sort and will give you a better chance of them clicking through to your main sale pages.
Next,Tips #2. Put quality Keyword Rich content on your pages.
This is yet another important tip you must consider and that is putting quality Keyword Targeted content on your "Feeder Pages" that targets your audience.
Why?
Because you are building these pages for the search engines and since roughly 85% of Internet surfers use search engines as their primary tool for locating the information they're looking for your going to want to have Quality Content related to your Product or Service waiting for them to draw them in when they find your link within the search engine listings.
Tips #3. Add links back to your website or affiliate site.
This next tip is pretty straight forward. All you need to do is put either a Text Ad(recommended) or some Banner Ads within the "Feeder Pages" in Highly Visible areas and link them back to your main website or Affiliate website.
This is the whole purpose of building these pages in the first place.
Tips #4. Placing your Google Adsense code for $$CASH$$.
Since your doing all this work to generate traffic to your main website why not profit EVEN MORE by adding 3 blocks of Google Adsense code to your "Feeder Pages" just in case your visitor decides not to click through to your website or affiliate site.
And since your "Feeder Pages" have quality Keyword Targeted content on them, your Google Adsense Ads will display targeted ads.
The best places to put your 3 blocks of Google Adsense code is right at the top under your Header graphic if you have one. The next best place is in the upper left sidebar. And the last place is either within the content itself or at the end of the article.
These positions all depend on how you build your "Feeder Pages", so make sure you plan out where you want to put your Google Adsense code in advance for Maximum PROFIT!
Tips #5. Add an RSS feed to your "Feeder Pages".
Okay. Here's the last tip I'm going to share and that is, add an RSS(Real Simple Syndication) feed to your "Feeder Pages".
But why RSS Feed?
Simple. RSS feeds deliver and syndicate fresh content, so if you have an RSS feed on your "Feeder Pages" your content will be updated 'Automatically' which will then trigger the search engine spiders to schedule routine visits back to your website for more indexing.
